October 9, 2019  |  by Timothy Carioscio

When Sara Lee Frozen Bakery was spun off from Tyson Foods, it had one week to move its SAP environment out of Tyson's data centre. CONTAX, its SAP professional services partner, migrated Sara Lee's SAP workloads to AWS in 7 days from start to go-live, with very little disruption to the business.

The Customer

The Sara Lee Frozen Bakery family of brands offers a portfolio of culinary-inspired bakery favorites to foodservice customers in Canada. Sara Lee Frozen Bakery works with CONTAX as its SAP professional services partner.

The Challenge

Sara Lee Frozen Bakery had been owned by Tyson Foods. When the business was spun off from its parent company, it had to move its SAP environment out of Tyson's data centre.

The project was approved only one week before Sara Lee would lose access to the data centre hosting its SAP systems. SAP migrations usually take a number of weeks, so the whole move had to fit into a fraction of the normal time.

The Solution

CONTAX moved Sara Lee's SAP workloads to Amazon Web Services in a matter of days. To meet the deadline, the CONTAX migration team drew on resources in multiple time zones.

Private network on AWS

CONTAX used Amazon VPC to build an enterprise-grade private network for Sara Lee's SAP environment.

Data transfer

Amazon S3 and S3 Transfer Acceleration carried Sara Lee's SAP workloads into AWS.

Team across time zones

CONTAX staffed the migration with people in multiple time zones to meet the one-week deadline.

The Results

  • The migration took 7 days from start to go-live, inside the one-week window
  • Sara Lee's business users saw very little disruption to core business functions on SAP
  • On-demand AWS pricing lets Sara Lee use the services it needs without a long-term commitment
  • Sara Lee built on its existing relationship with CONTAX, its SAP and AWS partner
