What is SAP Business AI?

SAP Business AI is SAP's name for the artificial intelligence built into its applications. It includes the Joule assistant, AI features inside S/4HANA and other SAP apps, AI agents, and tools for building your own AI on SAP Business Technology Platform.

What is SAP Joule?

Joule is SAP's AI assistant. Users ask questions or give instructions in plain language, and Joule answers from their SAP data, finds problems and guides them through tasks. There are also versions of Joule for developers and for consultants.

How is Joule different from ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot?

Joule is built for SAP. It understands SAP processes and terms, such as cost centers and material master data, and works with your live SAP data within each user's authorizations. General AI tools don't have that context.

Do we need S/4HANA Cloud to use Joule?

Joule and most of SAP's newest AI features are delivered with SAP's cloud solutions, including RISE with SAP and S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, and are not available for SAP ECC. We can check exactly what works with your current system.

What does Joule cost?

Some Joule capabilities are included in SAP's cloud subscriptions, while premium capabilities, such as Joule for consultants, are paid add-ons. Terms vary by contract, so we review what you already have before you buy more.
